Commercial Danish-African partnerships
The Africa Facility supports Danish businesses’ engagement, partnerships and investments in Africa.
Targeted Danish companies and funds
The Africa Facility aims to to open doors for Danish companies and foundations that wish to expand commercial activities across the 54 African markets. The total investment framework amounts to DKK 350 million between 2025 and 2028.
Danish companies and funds can apply for financing for commercial investment partnerships that have a proven impact and are commercially sustainable.
When can companies receive financing?
A company is eligible for financing from the Africa Facility when:
- It operates in a developing country as defined by OECD/DAC. See country list.
- It delivers positive social or environmental impact and does not include activities listed on our exclusion list.
- It is commercially viable with proof of business.
Financing options
The Africa Facility can offer loan, equity and mezzanine financing – depending on the type of investment partnership.
The facility targets two types of projects:
- Early-stage investment partnerships with high-growth potential (ticket size DKK >15 million)
- More mature investment partnerships (ticket size DKK >25 million)
Impact Fund Denmark does not take a majority stake in the financing ground.
Examples of partnership models could be:
- Danish companies with a view to establishing a business in Africa
- Local companies established, managed or financed by Danish partners
- Local companies with commercial ties to Denmark, including:
- Existing African partners for Danish companies using Danish know-how, technology or service.
- Suppliers of products and services to Danish companies.
- Partners to Danish companies in other ways (e.g. in joint distribution).
- Danish private funds that invest in local African companies and institutions or funds with Danish investors
- African investment partners investing in local companies with commercial ties to Denmark. This could, for example, be financial institutions or development banks.
It is a requirement for all Impact Fund Denmark’s investments to be able to document:
- Impact contributions and measurable development effects
- High sustainability standards (or a plan to achieve these with technical assistance)
- Robust business model with the ability to generate returns
- Clear plan for Impact Fund Denmark’s exit from the investment
Investment applications can be considered in sectors beyond the four core focus sectors: Green Energy & Infrastructure, Financial Services, Healthcare and Sustainable Food Systems and may be assessed with a higher risk appetite and increased technical assistance for high-potential projects.
We look forward to talking to you
We encourage Danish companies with existing activities in or strategic interests on the African continent to engage in dialogue on investment opportunities.
