First Africa Facility investment in Danish fruit-processing company Orana

Impact Fund Denmark invests USD 6 million (approx. DKK 40 million) in the Danish fruit-processing company Orana. The investment is the first under Impact Fund Denmark’s so-called Africa Facility and will support Orana’s expansion in Uganda and Kenya.

The Africa Facility provides funding allocated by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support Danish companies looking to establish or expand their business in Africa. Through the facility, Impact Fund Denmark can help strengthen commercial ties between Denmark and Africa’s growth markets.

There are significant business opportunities in Africa and opportunities to create growth. Through the Africa Facility, we can invest alongside Danish companies that want to establish or expand their activities on the continent. Orana is a great example of a truly Danish company from Funen with international ambitions, and we hope this investment can pave the way for more Danish companies to seize the opportunities in African markets.

Lars Bo Bertram, CEO of Impact Fund Denmark

Orana from the Danish island of Funen produces fruit-based ingredients for the food industry and operates in several international markets. In Uganda, Orana will expand the current production with a local partner and establish a new production line for pineapple concentrate. In Kenya, the company will build a new factory to produce fruit-based blends for dairies and other food manufacturers in the region.

There is great potential to process more East African fruit locally. With our new investments in Uganda and Kenya, we can create more value locally, closer to both the raw materials and our customers, while also creating lasting jobs. To us, it is important that investments make good business sense and contribute to local development.

Niels Østerberg, founder and managing director of Orana

The investment shows how the Africa Facility can support sustainable growth in African markets while enabling Danish companies to expand their business on the continent.

The Africa Facility is funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and managed by Impact Fund Denmark. The facility has a total allocation of DKK 350 million for the period 2025–2028.
