Impact Fund Denmark finances vital water supply upgrade for 35,000 residents in Pervomaisk, Ukraine

Impact Fund Denmark, via Public Infrastructure, has provided a EUR 3.6 million grant to Pervomaisk City Council to support the reconstruction of the city’s main water pipeline in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region. Nefco, the Nordic Green Bank, will oversee the administration and implementation of the project.

Rebuilding critical infrastructure

The project will involve the reconstruction of an 8.8 km underground water supply pipeline from the city’s Water Treatment Plant to the clean water reservoirs. This grant builds on a previous EU-funded project in the Mykolaiv region, which supported the reconstruction of the Water Treatment Plant in Pervomaisk.

The new funding from Impact Fund Denmark enables the improved Water Treatment Plant to operate at full capacity and ensure reliable access to drinking water for all residents.

Significant impact

The reconstruction of the pipeline is expected to improve water supply for around 35,000 residents, including 6,650 internally displaced persons, save 1.2 million cubic meters of water annually and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 580 tonnes annually.

Russia targets Ukraine’s critical infrastructure to weaken resilience. This project is vital to secure water access and strengthen Ukraine’s recovery.

Implementation is scheduled to begin in December 2025 and be completed by December 2026.

This project reaffirms Impact Fund Denmark’s commitment to rebuilding essential infrastructure and supporting Ukraine’s resilience during wartime.
