Impact Fund Denmark is providing a grant to modernise the wastewater treatment plant in Lviv, Ukraine, damaged by the war.
The grant will support feasibility studies for the reconstruction of a critically degraded transformer substation and a key water transmission pipeline that supplies around 20 per cent of Lviv’s drinking water. In addition, it will fund a study for the modernisation of the city’s wastewater and sewerage infrastructure.
Lviv, a UNESCO World Heritage city, faces mounting pressure on its essential services due to the ongoing conflict and a significant influx of internally displaced people. Ageing infrastructure and environmental risks make modernisation not only urgent but vital for humanitarian relief and long-term development.
The feasibility studies will, among other things, improve planning for safe drinking water and reliable sanitation for over 750,000 residents, while laying the groundwork for future investments and financing from international doners and development banks.
